Wikipedia says this of Aberdeen…
“Aberdeen is a small town in the upper Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Upper Hunter Shire. It is located about 12 kilometres north of Muswellbrook on the New England Highway. Aberdeen is named after Aberdeen, Scotland. At the 2006 census, Aberdeen had a population of 1,791.” The Realestateinvestar website says Aberdeen now has a population 2,039.
But what I would like to tell you about Aberdeen is this:
Aberdeen may be a small town but it has a population of parents and teachers that care a whole lot about their children’s health. Aberdeen and surrounding local businesses also care too.
Earlier this year a P&C parent (Jaclyn) of Aberdeen Public School contacted me about running The Mad Food Science Program™ for their whole school population of approx 220 students plus also for their local pre-school – that’s about 11% of the total population! I gave Jaclyn the information she needed including The Mad Food Science Program™ brochure so she could chat to the P&C Committee about it.
The P&C agreed they wanted to program at the school but believed some parents may not be able to afford $14 per head fee, particularly where there was more than 1 child at the school. They decided at the meeting that the P&C would fund some of the program and they would reach out to local community business to help fund the program.
Jodie another P&C parent was given the task to approach local businesses for their support. I am pleased to share Jodie did in fact get local business support, and now the P&C will host The Mad Food Science Program™ Incursion at the school for the children and parents on Wednesday 23rd July for just $4 per head.
It just goes to show you, when people care a whole lot, they will find a way.
We are so excited about Aberdeen Public School and Aberdeen Pre-School being part of our Australian Tour.
Please join me in acknowledging the following groups and businesses for helping bring The Mad Food Science Program™ to Aberdeen Public School and supporting our mission to Transform Children’s Health, One Lunchbox At A Time.
-
Aberdeen Public School P&C
-
Aberdeen Treasures
-
Aberdeen Lions Club
-
Scone Inspire Health
-
A local Thermomix Consultant will also sponsor up to 20 children if their families are unable to pay the parent component of the incursion fee.
What does this joint effort mean? It means Aberdeen Parents are Transforming Children’s Health. The school population and the pre-school who will be participating in The Mad Food Science Program™, make up approximately 11% of Aberdeen’s population. But from experience, we know that the children who participate go home and they share what they have learnt with their parents and siblings. This means the number of people touched by the program will be higher than this 11%. Exciting eh?
I hope the P&C of Aberdeen Public School have inspired you. I know they have me.
I should also acknowledge the principal and teaching staff of Aberdeen Public School too, for agreeing the whole school should participate in the program. It takes forward thinking to recognise the importance of what children eat and how it can impact behaviour in the classroom, teacher stress, the academic performance of the school and also waste in the school grounds.
If you care a whole lot about your childrens’ and their friends health, take a leaf out of Aberdeen Parents book and take action. You can call me directly on 0401 649 289 or email belinda@therootcause.com.au and I will happily chat to you about how we can get The Mad Food Science Program™ at your school.
