HELP US EMPOWER AUSSIE KIDS TO MAKE BETTER FOOD CHOICES
Australia's kids are in the midst of a health crisis.
Over 1 in 4 Australian children are overweight or obese, and rates of chronic illness are getting worse and worse.
But we're doing something about it. We're travelling across Australia, running school and community events that empower children to make healthier food choices.
Now we need your help. Help us stay on the road, develop new initiatives, and reach over 100,000 people!
Meet The Root Cause
Hi! We're Belinda and Israel Smith, founders of The Root Cause, and creators of The Mad Food Science™ Program.
Empowering children to make better food choices is the key to solving Australia's children's health crisis.
We've been running The Mad Food Science™ Program – our fun, interactive workshop – all over Australia, empowering kids to make better food choices, and getting great results.
To do this, we sold our Sydney home and put everything on the line, including most of our life savings, to bring our important mission to life - to Transform Children's Health in Australia.
Some expensive and unexpected mechanical breakdowns drained the little funds we had left, leaving us now without any savings or financial buffer zone.
Now we're asking for your help to re-build financially, so we can finish our Australian Tour, invest in innovative health education projects, and empower more children across Australia.
What Others Are Saying
"Very inspiring work from The Root Cause team!!!
Big Love Jamie!"
– Jamie Oliver
"Bel, Israel and their kids are truly some of the most authentic, passionate people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Their mission to transform Aussie kids' health is nothing short of inspiring and their unique approach is seeing excellent results. I wish every child in Australia could get access to their program. I will be contributing to their cause and encouraging everyone I know to do the same."
– Sonia Donaldson, Natural New Age Mum.
"The work that Belinda and Israel are doing around Australia sends shivers up my spine. I don't know many people effecting as powerful a change on the ground as they are. Changing lives - and lunch boxes! - one town at a time. I'm inspired by their work - they make me want to work harder. What an amazing contribution to the world!"
– Lisa Corduff, Keeping Food Real
"The Root Cause is a cause very close to my heart. As a naturopath and mum to a 4 and 5 year old, my admiration and complete support for Bel and Israel's real food for kids mission is unwavering. I think something like this should already be up and running with full government funding and backing in Australia but alas, it's not. This makes what The Root Cause is doing for Aussie kids and their families even more important. I believe it should be an easy decision when it comes to contributing to this cause and if you believe in the future health of this nation, then please contribute. And Thankyou so much Belinda, Israel and family for sacrificing so much and for being such passionate and educative voices for the people who need it the most - our future. I can't wait until my kids get to see and feel the message you are bringing across our country, thanks again."
– Alisha Lynch, Naughty Naturopath Mum

1. Are you a Registered Charity or Not For Profit?
No, The Root Cause is a Social Enterprise Business. This means we are a for-profit business that exists to serve a social purpose (our mission to Transform Children's Health In Australia by empowering kids to make better food choices). The business generates income, which in turn is re-invested in supporting our mission.
2. How will my contribution get used?
Your contribution will be used to rebuild an emergency financial buffer for future unexpected expenses, to ensure our Australian Tour and overall mission can continue. Once contributions reach $10,000, additional contributions will be invested into innovative projects we are developing:
- Digitising The Mad Food Science™ Program so it can be made available to every child in Australia.
- Running a pilot to transition an entire school to real food lunchboxes.
- Continuing our Australian Tour, visiting States and Regions we haven't reached yet.
3. Have you thought of Govt Funding?
Yes. Finding the 'right' Govt Funding is important because we do not want our health messages and the manner in which we deliver them to be diluted. Now we have over 12 months of proof The Mad Food Science™ Program works, we're hoping to find a grant which will help us roll the program out more widely.
4. When will I receive my Exclusive Sampler of "Recipes from the Bus" Cookbook?
You will be emailed your downloadable sampler on December 15th 2016.
5. Can I get a receipt for my contribution?
We're unable to issue a donation receipt for tax purposes as we are not a registered charity or not for profit. We can however issue you with a receipt to acknowledge your contribution. If you would like this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
6. Will you tell us how much you've raised, and how the money is being used?
Yes. At the end of 2016, we will send all of our contributors an email to let you know how much was raised and how we have distributed the funds for use.
7. If I nominate to make a regular contribution, will you automatically deduct this on the same day every week or month?
Yes, our system is set up to be easy for you. A regular weekly or monthly contribution will always come out on the same day of the week or date of the month as when you first ordered.
8. If I nominate to make regular contributions, can I cancel the contribution?
Yes, absolutely. You can cancel at any time by contacting Israel on email@example.com.
9. If I contribute, will this guarantee you will come to our area?
Unfortunately not. To be able to manage our bookings, we have had to lock down the tour route and dates. But on a positive, when we rebuild our emergency buffer funds, any extra contributions will be put towards our other big projects, which are all designed to get the program out more widely to children and parents who can't see us in person on this tour.
10. Can I contribute using PayPal or Direct Deposit?
Yes! Please contact Israel on firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange this. (Sadly, our electronic shopping cart doesn't make this easy!)
