Well, it’s been ages since I posted a few of my tour photos taken on my ‘real’ camera, and since Tasmania was just so gosh darn beautiful, I figured I ought to post a few photos of our visit there.
Bel had almost a week’s worth of commitments with our National Partners Worldwide Printing Solutions, so our first stop was Hobart and Margate (with our friends Suze & Paul) – but once our work was complete, we took off to the South East corner of Tassie, and Port Arthur.
I almost left the kids here. Kidding! They were really well behaved, and enjoyed the stories of the prisoners immensely.
The scenery was extremely beautiful, and the gardens were serene. Although, we came back through this area on a ghost tour later on the first night, and I have to say, it was a lot less serene then!
Tasmania has the biggest bumblebees I have EVER seen. Actually, these are possibly the only bumblebees I’ve ever seen, but they were MASSIVE, and everywhere.
This next shot was taken by Rilien using my camera… it mis-focussed, but I really like the arty, blurry quality to it!
This is a reflection garden, built on the site of the Port Arthur massacre in 1996. It’s 20 years this year since this atrocity. The tour guides and historic site dealt with it with such reverence and sensitivity. We were deeply moved.
On the way home after our second day exploring the Historic Site, we took a drive around the Tasman Peninsula toward a place called “Remarkable Cave” – the Tasmania-shaped hole in the rocks in the photo below – and we were just gobsmacked by the colour of the water and the beauty of the coastline.
So that’s it for our first instalment of Tasmania – stay tuned for Part 2: Wineglass Bay, the Tahune Airwalk, and Cataract Gorge!
